Camera Shy
Town: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory
Deaf dog: Perkins is a 4 month old Blue Heeler. Her family says "We got our baby Perkins out of the paper. We didn't know at the time that she was deaf, but after some time, we worked out that she was (due to not coming to her name). We then took her to the vet and they said yeppers she is deaf! They informed us that we should get another dog to help her learn, so we did, we got a red heeler his name is Larry! We are very proud of her 'cause she has now learnt to sit! And I'm sure in time she will learn a lot more. You hear all these stories that deaf dogs should be put to sleep, but there is no way ever in the would I would ever do that to her becouse she is a special puppy!
Human companions: Melissa Brown and her husband
Other pets: Red Heeler "Larry"

Holly
Holly
Town: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory
Deaf dog: Holly is a 5 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Her family says "Holly was bought from a well known breeder in Sydney. I was told by the vet who desexed her that she had holes in her eardrums but that they would probably heal."
Holly does not like to let any member of our family out of her sight and is particularly concerned if our other dog is taken away from her. If Holly is outside she will run from window to window to see where you are going next. She is very hyperactive and turns circles and leaps in the air when she is excited. She makes a lot of noise licking bowls about on the kitchen floor.
She has very minimal hearing. She can hear very loud bangs and if we speak directly into her ear she jumps and runs away. We love her very much and she is very kind to our new kitten who sneaks up on her and grabs her around the back of the neck."
Human companions: Susan Jamieson
Other pets: Allice who is also a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a siamese cat and a new kitten
