Camera Shy
Town: Haverhill, Suffolk, England
Deaf dog: Skye is a ten week old Border Collie, she has one blue eye but isn't blind! I recently discovered that she was deaf. This was a great shock although she has got a lot of white on her. I call her my special baby!! I got her from a friend that breeds border collies professionally, but no one wanted her .As soon as I saw her I knew she had to be mine.It doesn't bother me that she is deaf, in fact I feel a lot closer to her. I love her with all my heart!!!! She has got such a great character and I don't see her to be any different to any other dog I know!! She loves playing with my 2 horses I have that I rescued, now I have Skye she just feels like part of the family.xxx

Deaf dogs: Charlie
Charlie is an 5 month old Dalmatian. "This puppy was one of a litter bred by a first timer. There were several in the litter, some with no hearing ptroblems,2 partially deaf and one totally deaf.
The latter could not be sold and needed a very understanding family to go to .Albeit we have had dogs in the family before, none have been obtained as a puppy, nor have they ever been deaf. The puppy is very curious,is already nearly toilet trained. We just have to buy a new tv remote!!
This is now our only dog and we realise it will be very hard work, any help in what to do would be most welcome!!"

Poppy
Poppy
Town: Lowestoft, Suffolk, England
Deaf dog: Poppy is a one year old Dalmatian. "My son was doing work experience at a rescue kennels when Poppy's mum was brought in as a pregnant stray. She had her pups at the kennels and when the pups were old enough they were sold. Poppy was brought back after 3 days when her new owners discovered that she was deaf at her first vet check. My son asked me if we could take her otherwise she was going to be moved to another rescue centre. I went to see her and fell in love. She was 9 weeks old and only half the size of her 3 brothers that were left and she is still small for a Dalmatian, but I'm sure she is a pedigree. She soon learned some signs for sit, down, say please, come here, no etc. and she is very good at reading body language(peoples and dogs. I can walk her off lead as she's very good at keeping with me and she keeps checking back with me. My hearing Belgian Shepherd dog soon learned to "go get Poppy" and they are the best of friends."
Human companions: Ruth Shaw, her husband, Steven, 19 yr old daughter, Kristie and 17 yr old son, Kristian.
Other pets: A hearing Belgian Shepherd, Kim' and a cat called Stinky.
