Stoney
Stoney
Town: Katy, Texas
Deaf dog: Stoney is an approximately 3 yr. old Aussie mix who was recently rescued. Her dad writes: "Last week I received an email from a shelter worker that a deaf Aussie was at her final day at a rescue. By 3 a.m., I was on my journey to get her. She seems perfect, and fits into my pack nicely. My only 2 problems are food theft (while you're watching) and my roommate complains that if I'm out training clients too late, she whines and howls waiting for me to get home, even though she's in the house with my other dogs. She sleeps next to me when I'm home, and loves trying to type even though she's definitely not good at it. Her other favorite thing to do is watch TV."
Human companions: Chad R. Petrash and his roommate, who also loves dogs.
Other pets: German Shepherd/wolf Cyndy, found in Michigan; and roommate's mix, Vixen.

Town: Danciger, Texas
Deaf dog: Deafanny is an 8 week old Catahoula. Deafanny's human is a 3 year old little girl, Samantha, whose mom says: "She picked Deafanny out when she was a puppy and they bonded that day. When Samantha leaves Deafanny alone with me she barks until Samantha comes back. Deafanny can even find Samantha in the dark outside. They love each other and even sleep together."
Human companions: Samantha A Reichel; her mommy and daddy.
Other pets: 4 other dogs, cows, horses, goats and some cats.

Camera Shy
Town: Edinburg, Texas
Deaf dog: Hannah is just about to turn 4 years old -- but we still call her "Hannah the Pup." She is deaf (of course!), tailless and piebald instead of the usual jack russell coloring. She knows about 50 hand signals, some ASL and some home-made. She has one dog brother, Oberon, a red mutt darling, and three cat sisters -- Alecto, the 21 year old (yes, that is human years) grey; Kali, the 12 year old brown tabby, and Yuki, the 7 year old white. Even though Hannah is allergic to cats, she can often be found cuddled up with the tabby. Hannah is so utterly delightful -- smart, bold, and loving. And did I mention headstrong?! Love that pup!
Human companions: Theresa & JC. Norman
Other pets: Alecto (20 year old grey cat), Kali (20 year old brown tabby), Yuki (5 year old pure white cat), Oberon (8 month old red cutie-pie mutt)

Town: Fischer, Texas
Deaf dog: Domino is a 5 year old Dalmatian. "My husband rescued Domino as a pup when taking his female Dalmatian to the vet. Domino's owner told the vet for a quarter he would take the pup out back & shoot him. My husband gave him a quarter and took him home. Unfortunately, my husband had no idea how to train him. Since we married last year, Domino seems attached to me. I have taught him hand signals. I adore Domino; he is a beautiful dog. I always get respect and attention from him. He is worth more than a quarter to me."
Human companions: Dodie and Bryan Weidner
Other pets: Pepper, female Dalmatian, Mascha, female Dalmatian pup; and 6 cats, Socks, Patches, Tortilla, Bandit, Pumpkin and Booboo.

Apache
Apache
Town: San Benito, Texas
Deaf dog: Apache is a 2 year old Catahoula. "We got Apache from a deaf dog rescue. He is an amazing dog who learns faster than any dog that I have ever met. I saw a picture of Apache on the internet and fell in love. I knew very little about Catahoulas, but I am learning every day as Apache shows us what a spectacular dog he is."
Human companions: April Yetsko and Rey Ramos

Camera Shy Town: San Antonio, Texas
Deaf dog: Cowboy, a 2 year old Shi Szu, is the sweetest, strangest, most loveable cowboy ever! I bought my deaf dog from a breeder in Florisville, Texas 2 years ago. Finding out that he is deaf was heartbreaking but I've learned to get used to it. We have our own way of communicating with each other. I wouldn't hesitate to get another deaf dog when the time is right.

Porter
Porter
Town: San Antonio, Texas
Deaf dog: Porter is a 4-5 month old Dalmatian/Lab mix. "We think that he was dumped at our house because he was deaf and we have another Dal/Pointer mix (hearing). Someone probably figured we liked the breed, and luckily, we do! After searching for his owners with no luck, we decided to keep him. Fortunately, I had trained my other two dogs with hand signals in case the Dal/Pointer mix lost his hearing, so Porter was an easy fit in our family. He is a fast learner, but mostly is learning by example from his 2 older brothers. Oh yeah, and he's adorable to boot."
Human companions: Pamela and Kevin Gallivan
Other pets: Foster, A Dal/Pointer mix and Becker, a Chocolate Lab.

Gwen
Gwen
Town: Gonzales, Texas
Deaf dog: Lady Gweniviere Dots "Gwen" is a 4 year old Dalmatian. "Gwen is our youngest baby. We bought her from a disreputable breeder that did not take care of the litter and three of Gwen's litter mates died of Parvo. Gwen had been taken from her mother too early and when we got her she could not even eat properly. She has been with us since she was 5 weeks old and goes everywhere with us. She is our best ambassador for the B&B and gets as many cards and gifts as her Mommy and Daddy at Christmas. Gwen thinks she is people and communicates with us as easily as a talking person. She responds to us through a combination of hand signals and verbal cues as she can hear out of one ear. Her role in this life according to her is to take care of us. We learned at an early age to play "hide and seek" and so she never lets us out of her sight. We also worked with her using her sense of smell so she would never get lost. Although the vet recommended euthanizing her, we disagreed and Gwen has been one of our best experiences. She is the sweetest, most loving pup. She also is a smiling Dalmatian and when she greets us, sometimes she smiles so hard she makes herself sneeze."
Human companions: Al and Dawn O'Donnell
Other pets: 25 goldfish (and multiplying) and an organic yardful of wildlife.

Macy
Macy
Town: Schertz, Texas
Deaf dog: Macy is a 1 year old Lab/Husky mix. "I just recently received Macy from the Humane Society. I am very excited about having a deaf dog and learning to communicate with her. She seems to be a very intelligent dog so I do not see any problems in training her. I adopted her for 3 reasons: 1 - she is absolutely adorable, 2 - I assume it might be hard to find a home for a dog with problems and 3 - It will be much harder for my extremely loud 2.5 year old son to make a deaf dog crazy!!"
Human companions: Stacy Jones and Jared Leighton.

Stella
Stella
Town: San Antonio, Texas
Deaf dog: Stella is a 16 month old deaf Boxer with lots of energy. "At the present, she knows about 13 hand signals and is VERY fond of the flashlight. She is also allergic to bees and wasps and cannot be outside without an escort. She lives with 2 cats and wants to give them kisses (the cats aren't falling for it though) all the time. We don't think Stella knows she is actually a dog. We are blessed to have such a sweet soul in our lives."
Human companions: Cindy Kelleher, mom and Wendy Maybury, favorite aunt
Other pets: 2 Cats: Pete and Elliott
Email: cynkelleher@msn.com
Brandi
Brandi
Town: Kingsville, Texas
Deaf dog: Brandi's human pal writes: "Brandi is about 5 mos, and very rambunctious. I believe she was thrown away due to her deafness. She prefers to ait until coming inside where it is warm to tinkle, but we are working on that. Her favorite pasttime is chewing everything in the house that DOESN'T belong to her! This would include any part of my anatomy she can dig her teeth into! She seems to be very happy."
Human companions: Wendy
Other pets: Tazzy and Sasha, the immensly understanding cats
Other comments: Brandi was originally going to be a foster puppy, but after having her for three days, I discovered her deafness. I live in an area well known for pit fighting, and I fear that adopting out a "defective" puppy would result in something terrible for her future. I have opted to keep her and now need training so I can train her. I have the "look at me" command almost down, but that is about it. I welcome others advice!

Chibi
Town: Corpus Christi, Texas
Deaf dog: Chibi is a 1 year old Mini Aussie Shepherd. His human pal writes: "Chibi is one of the happiest puppies on earth. I am a pet trainer at PETsMART and met him when he came with his owner. When she found out he was deaf, she decided to give him up. I have had him for 6 months now and I must say I am the luckiest pet parent alive to have such a wonderful dog. Chibi responds to facial expressions, training signs, body language and ASL signs. He goes to work everyday greeting customers at the store all day long. "
Human companions: Janay
Other pets: I have Mimi a 10 year old Lab/Chow mix, Leisha, a 9 year old Border Collie, Koro, a 2 year old Yellow Lab, and Mei Xiang - 2 year old Border Collie.
