Deaf dog: Mollie MooMoo is an 8 month old Boston Terrier. She is very smart. When I started to train her with hand signs she had them down in 2 days time with only about 15 minutes of work each day. She is a real clown and just seems to really enjoy her life. We love her very much. When I figured out she was deaf, about 2 days after getting her, I told my husband when he got home from work and he said "So?" It just doesn't really seem to make a difference. Now when we have company they all come to see Mollie and I think she knows it!

Wizzer is a 2.5 year old Dalmatian. He is an exceptional Deaf Dal. He housebroke another 3 year old Dal for me. He swooned Fancy right over to being his soul mate! He helped to train Shelby from jumping into the faces of other dogs! He is one big bundle of love and happiness. He also knows more asl sign language than I do! Wiz was raised by a Deaf Lady. It nearly tore her heart out when she had to part with him.

Cappy
Cappy
Town: Arcadia, Indiana
Deaf dog: Cappy is a 2 year old Dalmatian. She is just a normal dog, whom happens to be deaf. I got Cappy when she was 5 weeks old and within a week, I knew she was deaf. She is a very happy dog, gets along great with all dogs and people. I was warned that she would be aggresive....she is not! She went to puppy obedience classes when she was young, and recently graduated from k-9 school. She knows hand signals, some of which are homemade. Her life in companion is a 11 year old Dachshund, he is hearing. His nature is to bark at everything, and has taught her to bark when he does. Cappy's sense of sight is some much stronger than any dog I have ever had. I believe she is able to make up for her deafness with her eye sight. There can be a cat a block away, she'll see it! When we have thunder storms, she will sleep thru the thunder, but one flash of lightening and she is up barking.

Deaf dog: Ginger is an 11 year old GSD mix who is going deaf as she gets older and Luna is a 6-month old English Setter who was born deaf. Their Mom says: "We've had Ginger since she was 6 weeks old. Her deafness has come on in stages over the last two year or so. She's so mellow, it just makes her more unflappable! Luna is our new baby, we wanted a playmate for our twins, and a hiking buddy for mom. I'd forgotten how much work puppies are! My BIL and his wife are deaf, so having a deaf dog has been a fascination that I've only been able to indulge this year. I've learned a lot from DDEAF. It helps to know you aren't the only one being frustrated by our deaf darlings!"

Suprisingly she is very calm unless you get her fired up then she is playing nonstop. She loves kids and other animals, especialy cats, they seem to give her a challenge. She has to know where I'm at all the time. Car rides are by far her favorite thing to do."

Banditt
Banditt
Town: Harrodsburg, Indiana
Deaf dog: Banditt is a 3 month old Dalmatian/Setter mix. "I adopted Banditt from the Morgan Monroe County Humane Society. After a few hours I realized he was deaf but it didn't matter, I was already attached. And I know that I could give him a better home and life than probably anyone else he has come into contact with. He's 3 months old and the vet said he was apparently born that way. He's perfectly healthy other than that small set back. He's my baby boy and if he can't hear that's okay with me, he'll just get that much more love since he can't hear me say it. He doesn't leave my side very often unless he's playing with the other dogs. He walks right with me, he's very spoiled and I hold him just like a little baby. Very, Very, Wonderful puppy. He didn't get the gift of hearing but he's my gift and I can hear for him."
Human companions: Amanda Cosby
Other pets: A Cocker Spaniel/Chow mix and a Smooth Hair Fox Terrier

Skyler
Skyler
Town: Guilford, Indiana
Deaf dog: Skyler is a 14 week old Boxer. "My daughter bought Skyler from a local breeder. We were both looking for Boxer pups and she wanted a white one. I had my heart set on a Brindle. However, after discovering that Skyler was deaf my daughter realized that she was not going to have the time to give her the extra time and training she would need. I was looking for a pup to train as a service dog since I have Multiple Sclerosis. I have to admit I had my concerns about taking her in but having physical challenges myself I thought I could understand her and be patient enough to train her. We're learning a lot together and she already knows a lot of basic obedience. She is the sweetest thing too! I am totally in love with her! Together I feel confident that we can do this!"
Human companions: Mindy and Ken Riddell
Other pets: Buster a 5 year old German Shepherd mix and 2 cats - Hopper & Frisky

Indy Snow, Sarah Black
Indy and Sarah - Bookends
Town: Columbia City, Indiana
Deaf dog: Indy Snow is a Great Dane, born 9-9-04. "Indy is the calmer of the two, but more daring. She was the first to go down the stairs, but you could see her mind working to figure out how to do it first. Indy is entirely white except for the spot beside her nose, a dot on her back and a gray outline of her left ear. Indy is also sight challenged."
Sarah Black is a Great Dane, born 9-9-04. "Sarah is the cuddler and lover... she is also the follower. She is one step behind Indy all the way! Both puppies are from WV and were to be put down at 4 weeks due to their deafness. We adopted them after they were relocated to Bloomington, Indiana."
Bringing these deaf girls into our life has been a wonder and a joy. We made a quick but informed decision to adopt them and gained the majority of our info from DDEAF and from the Deaf Dog list. We wouldn't trade these babies for anything. We are interested in meeting other deaf dog parents in our area.
Human companions: Mom, Dad, 4 sisters (aged between 9 and 13)
Other pets: Kiefer, a 3 year old fawn Dane male; 2 rats, JK and Scabbers; and 2 cockatiels, Emma and Suni.
