Camera Shy
Town: Santa Rosa, California
Deaf dog: Magnus is an 18 month old Great Dane. He is a love bug, a lap dog, a cat/dog/people lover and has complete posession of all the furniture in the house except one loveseat (and he's lobbying strongly for that). He knows how to make the recliner recline in front of the heater and can be found there on cold mornings. Just a cool dude.
Human companions: Bethrenae Tribble, and husband Michael Burroughs
Other pets: Two Rottweilers, (Wookie, 11 and Pooka, 7), 7 cats, 1 13-foot Burmese python (Mahatma, 8)

Camera Shy
Town: Vacaville, California
Deaf dog: Techno is a Great Dane. A friend of mine's family raises Great Danes. He took her in, but then thought it would be too much work (he's a single guy, not home a lot). We took her in and she is wonderful - sweet and silly and very loving and lovable. She has taken to training well, however her attention span is still quite short (as is mine!). :)
Human companions: Lucia and Anthony Madonna
Other pets: Leo, a 5 year old Weimeraner

Camera Shy
Town: Sebastopol, California
Deaf dog: Koa (German Shepherd Dog) is smart as a whip! Was a return to the breeder puppy when the new owners realized he was deaf. Could never rationalize getting a puppy with all of the GSDs in shelters (both of my other GSDs were shelter rescues) so when this adorable special needs puppy was presented to me I jumped at the chance and haven't regretted it for a second!
Human companions: Nola F. Beecher
Other pets: Two other GSDs & a golden retriever

Diablo and Hannah
Diablo and Hannah
Town: Travis AFB, Fairfield, California
Deaf dog: I was teching at a vet clinic and happened to be up front when this lady walked in with her under her arm and wanted to post up some fliers. I asked what for and I asked if I could hold her puppy. (since ACD's are my FAVORITE dogs, it was love at first site!) She told me that she was looking for a good home for her because she had been at another vet office earlier in the day when a rancher walked in for the appt., found out she was deaf and wanted her euthanized. The lady had a deaf Dane at home and wouldn't hear of it. When she asked the rancher if she could take the dog, he told her yes and that's how I got her! She has been through A LOT of training and she LOVES to ignore me. She runs and peeks back to see if i'm still watching and the second I turn my head, she's off!!! I love her to deaf. haha. She's a Blue Merle and recently escaped from the yard (and on the air force base, that's BADDD) BUT she did return 6 hours later on her own. THANK GOD!!
Human companions: Renee, Jeff & 3 kids, Brittany, Mikaela and Madison
Other pets: Diablo, a 2 yo red ACD. (I don't think he's figured out that she's deaf yet) and Jake, a 8 yo border collie/dalmatian X who KNOWS she's deaf. Oh and 4 cats, Chance, Felix, Mather and Mr. Jinx

Bella
Bella
Town: Cazadero, California
Deaf dog: Bella is a 4 month old Catahoula. "Bella is one of twelve born to my Catahoula bitch Traveler. She is hands down the smartest of her litter. She has taught her brothers and sisters as well as the other family dogs that she is deaf. It's really fun to watch the others interact with her! She is learning sign language as well as some "made-up" signs and is real quick to learn! She stole my heart when she was first born! I breed Catahoulas, and have always been told that "white" dogs should be euthanized at birth...I'm so glad I didn't follow the norm, and never will!"
Human companions: Helen and Dean Collins
Other pets: Traveler, Shiloh, Gator, Zeus, Argyle Sox, all hearing Catahoulas; Tiger, a hearing Kemer Cur; two cats, KC and Muguai.

Ruby Tuesday
Ruby Tuesday
Town: Suisun City, California
Deaf dog: Ruby Tuesday is a 12 year old Norwich Terrier. "I found my little Ruby Tuesday on petfinder.com in Dec 2003. She was rescued from an owner who neglected her. Ruby was kept in a crate outside for 2 years. She is a senior girl maybe 12 years old or maybe older. She is just as sweet as can be! I didn't know that she was almost completely deaf when I adopted her. I would have adopted her anyway, though. I want her final years to be happy and filled with love and for her to know that someone thinks she is just a wonderful little girl and loves her very much."
Human companions: Michael & Brenda DeShields
Other pets: Molly & Willy, also Norwich Terriers.

Nip
Nip
Town: Napa, California
Deaf dog: Nip is a 6 month old Australian Cattle Dog. "We noticed from a very early age that Nip differed from her siblings, mainly she slept "like the dead". We decided to keep her and as she got a little older we suspected that her "selective" hearing was not selective, it was non existant. We had her tested at UCD to confirm our concerns. Nip is completely bilaterally deaf. Now we are learning how to train a non-hearing dog."
Human companions: Kirsten Niesar and husband Jim Wilkinson
Other pets: Red Dawg and Sapphire, Nip's parents. Otter, Nip's non-biological uncle. Lots of cats, sheep and chickens.

Dolly
Dolly
Town: San Rafael, California
Deaf dog: Dolly is a 2 year old Shetland Sheepdog. "I bred my dog's mother who had a litter of four, but one died. When Dolly's ears opened her head tilted and she fell over every time she tried to walk. She seemed about 50% deaf at birth, and got progressivly worse each month. She is now about 90% deaf. I kept the entire litter of 3 puppies. I would never sell her to anyone as I believe that she is my responsiblity as I brought her into the world. She is the sweetest dog I have ever had."
Human companions: Gail and Tom Trimble
Other pets: 3 other dogs, 1 cat, 1 cockateil, 1 hen
