Deaf dog: Norche is an 11 year old Scottish Terrier. Her mom writes "Norche has BAER tested deaf, but still responds to commands, even though she is blindfolded and on the other side of the room. I don't know how she compensates, but she does and that is all that matters. She is the love of my life."

Ice, a congenitally deaf Aussie, " has been with us 4 years now, and has been a bundle full of energy from the beginning. He loves to go on walks, play in his pool, and be as vocal as possible.
Cleo, an Aussie mix, is partially deaf. "When we got her 3 years ago, she was very timid (especially towards men) but now she has become an attention hound."
River "River, our American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix is our latest Deaf Dog Member. She was also adopted from a shelter and has been with us for 1 year. Don't let her breed fool you, River has the sweetest personality and is all around a great dog! (My Big Baby) She loves to chase anything that flies, she also will chase shadows and laser pens! She has learned some sign language also. The dogs have their own web page."

I went to get him and he has been my pest ever since. He is very loving and barks a lot. When I sign to him he wants to dance. He is a sweet heart!"

Deaf dog: Gidget is a 10 month old Bull Terrier/Dalmatian. Her mom writes: "Gidget The Wonder Dog, I call her. She was at my local Shelter and I adopted knowing she was deaf. No one who encounters us can tell she is deaf unless we clue them in. She reads body language and facial expressions. Gidget is always eager to please and is full of puppy energy. She is also very socialized and loves all other dogs and people. She firmly believes everyone she meets should love her, and they do, especially me!"

Deaf dog: Stonewall Jackson is a 12 week old white Boxer. "Jackson was from a breeder. He had been promised to a family they no longer wanted him when they found out he was deaf. I was contacted to try and help place him, but I couldn't. I had to have this precious boy for myself. He is very smart and at 12 weeks knows the commands/signs for sit, down, no, stop, and shake. We are learning together and it is a wonderful adventure."

Deaf dog: Pete is a 4 year old miniature Poodle. " I rescued Pete from someone who was ready to let him out on the side of the road. A deaf dog was useless to this guy. I can honestly say that Pete is one of the best pets I've ever owned. I can't believe that people recommend deaf puppies be put to sleep"

Deaf dog: Molly Jean is a one and a half year old mixed breed. "Molly Jean is a smart dog. She is profoundly deaf as evaluated by her veterinarian, and therefore, she does not respond to most frequencies or pitches. She is very energetic. Deaf dog: Randy is a 9 year old German Shepherd. "I got Randy from the local humane society. I looked at him two different times within two weeks. My grey German Shepherd passed away last year and I needed another one and just got sucked into another 9yr old buddy. He is black and tan and an awesome dog. Randy knows a few tricks, takes his treats without grabbing and knows when it is time for that treat. Randy doesn't miss a thing outside, so you really would not know about his deafness unless I let you know. All in all, I have a pretty good buddy and he has now realized he is at home."

Deaf dog: Penny is a 6 month old Toy Fox Terrier. "We rescued 6 month old Penny from a family in Las Vegas who felt they couldn't give Penny the best in life with a family of four, to include 2 toddlers. We love Toy Fox Terriers and she is our third! We just picked her up this weekend but she is already housebroken thanks to her former mom's diligence! She also knows the ASL sign for "come". Our whole Krew can be viewed on our website."

Deaf dog: Jenny is a 9 month old Australian Shepherd. "Jenny showed up at our door a few weeks ago. I had seen her wandering the street near us, which unfortunately is a popular dumping spot for unwanted dogs. I realized immediately that she was completely deaf, and knew she would probably be put to sleep if I took her to the pound. She is extremely sweet and very smart, learning signs quickly. She fetches like a pro, but more than anything she loves to sit in our lap. I look forward to our new life together."

Deaf dog: Smudge is 7 months old and has become completely blind. He has very little hearing but enough to get by. He is completely housetrained, cratetrained and is a total JOY to live with. He never meets a stranger, and everyone who meets him falls head over heels for him. otherchanges = New member of the family is little sister Georgia Willow-Bark. Georgia is a full sister from the following litter. She is not impaired, a merliquin with striking blue eyes. She is the last of this line thank goodness, and she has a forever home with her big brother.

Deaf dog: I rescued Luke from the veterinarian's office where I work. His previous owner/breeder wanted him euthanized b/c he is deaf and therefore 'disposable' in his mind. He's truly the best dog I've ever had! Luke is a real sweetheart that is very deserving of his wonderful life in the country.

Other pets: 5 other dogs, 9 cats, 5 horses, and 2 goats. Lindy (cat) is 13-years-old and he gets 2 insulin shots a day to control his diabetes. Remy (horse) is 32-years-old!

Deaf dog: Haiku is a 4 Month Deaf Pit Bull/American Bulldog Mix. She was taken into our local shelter as a stray,so we decided to bring her home. At first she was a bit aggressive ..she would bite during her bath or if she got in trouble. She has been a real chore to housetrain but she is starting to get the hang of it. She has also learned some signs Sit/Come/No(she sees that one alot) and Good Girl!

Deaf dog: Lucy's human pal writes: "I recently adopted Lucy from the local shelter. I was not looking for a deaf dog, although I have a background with ASL and involvement in the Deaf community. The first day she amazed everyone by going to sleep in the middle of a bustling vet clinic. By day 3 we were banging pots and clapping behind her back to test her for deafness. Yep!! Deaf! :) She learned the sign for "sit" that day and seemed to pick up quickly to look for my hands. She seems very happy now and I couldn't feel more blessed. Such a sweet dog! She is now in training to be a therapy dog."

Deaf dog: Sky's human pal writes: "We adopted Sky through an Australian Shepherd rescue. She was turned in at a shelter for killing chickens as a puppy. She's extremely sweet & learns very fast. She acts like a regular dog & you wouldn't know she was deaf because she so in-tune with watching everything. She barks when people arrive just like the hearing dogs. My main goal with Sky is to earn her CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) so I can take her to visit nursing homes, pediatric wards, etc. & show people that she may be deaf, but still leads a normal, wonderful life."

I started taking in deaf GDs back when they (breeders) would put them to sleep. I found that to be such a waste of furry love. Paisley is her name because she is always busy checking everything and everyone out. She never meets a stranger, she loves my grandkids and does or trys to do everything they do including slide on the swingset. Paisley is the love of my life she brings so much love and quality to my life."

Deaf dog: Zina is a 1 year old Aussie Shepherd. Her human pal writes: "Zina is a little hyper and very smart. She is mostly white with black and gray and light blue eyes. She came from a local breeder, that breeds for fun. He didn't mention the possibility of deafness. My daughter and I just thought she was beautiful. My daughter called about ten local vets when we discovered that she could not hear. We were amazed at the response. The ones that weren't in returned her call. The response was she would make a great pet! Today we took her to the pet store. She behaved nicely. She loved the attention. She was very sweet with a yellow lab that was there and liked nose kisses but wanted him to stay away from her stubby tail!"
